MANCHESTER CLUBS BATTLE FOR ENGLAND DEFENDER

Premier Leaguehave been busy in the window as they look to rebuild ahead of next season. The top six sides appear to be taking their time in the transfer window so far with no major marquee signing from some of the teams.

One of the players that has been linked with some of the top six sides is Leicester City defender, Harry Maguire.

According to reports from England, Manchester United and Manchester City are battling for the England international

It is understood that both clubs are weighing up a bid of £70 million for former Hull City defender.

Manchester United have been after since last summer when Mourinho was still in charge of the club. Maguire is considered as the best center-back outside the top six clubs and has established himself as the de-facto center-back of the England national team.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to experience and solidity in the defence that conceded 57 goals last season.

Maguire fits the bill as a marquee quality defender that could bring a similar transformation to the backline reminiscent of what Virgil Van Dirk has done at Liverpool.

Manchester City have different needs from their rivals as the club wants a defender that can replace Vincent Kompany in the defence. The legendary Belgium defender left the Etihad at the end of the season and Mancity views Maguire as the perfect fit for the role.

It is understood that the Leicester board have been informed by Maguire of his wishes to make a move to a top-six club but are demanding a sizeable transfer fee for the defender.

Maguire is currently on holiday but his representatives have held talks with United regarding the transfer.

If United are able to complete this transfer it would take their spending to over £130 million after the arrival of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
